I comprised several lists of kinds of materials that can be used in your board game, common materials such as cards, miniatures, and tokens but it's better to invent your own unique materials though since that makes the game stand out as well as harder to copy.
Materials can either make events be by chance/luck like dice or spinners vs by conscious choices like worker placement methods.
I have also categorized materials that conceal/hide your options like cards or standees vs exposed for all to see like sand timers etc.
You must also consider material quality and costs when manufacturing your game since you're essentially taking things that could be commonly purposed for something specific and now you repurpose it giving the item a new definition in a sense, for this game. It's sometimes difficult to find replacement pieces so you don't want to disappoint customers with easy to break or smear things.
